Writer/Actor

I am an artist.

I speak truth.  When necessary, I speak truth to power.

I used to think that being an artist meant living a selfish lifestyle.  And in part it is because we spend a lot of time alone creating.  But there’s the rub.  One of the greatest struggles any artist has is believing that her work is important, has merit, and is worthy of being seen. But it’s precisely these talents that bring meaning to our own lives, and the lives of those around us.  Or as Steven Soderbergh said when he accepted his Oscar “This world would be unlivable without art.”

We’re spinning on this globe for such a short time, and spend far too much of it in fear, afraid that what we do, who we are, and what we create won’t be good enough.  What a waste.

I’m productive.  I don’t fuss and stumble over every little thing I create.  I look at the big picture, the long view, and see this creative process as a marathon, not a sprint.

I have gift of insight.  Everyone sees that in me.   I see it in myself.

My art isn’t selfish but is instead an essential gift I give to the world.
